512. John STRONG, Jr., was born before 24 NOV 1698 in St. Peter's Parish, probably in that part of the parish located in New Kent Co., VA. He was christened on 24 NOV 1698 in St. Peter's Parish. He died before 1752 in western Hanover Co., VA (St. Martin's Parish of the Church of England).

[Mrs.?] Mary STRONG, who attended the Quaker weddings of some of Ann Stanley Strong's siblings and who apparently resided with John Strong, III, in Goochland County after 1770, was likely the widow of John Strong, Jr., of Hanover County. They were likely married before 1730, probably in Hanover Co., VA.  513. [Mrs.?] Mary STRONG died after 1786 in probably Goochland Co., VA. Mary was not the wife of John Strong, III, with whom she apparenlty resided, as John Strong, III, had a wife named Elizabeth when he sold his land in Goochland County shortly after the last record of Mary Strong was recorded there. Mary Strong was likely the mother of John Strong, III.

In the absence of vital records about this family, an effort has been made to reconstruct the family from bits and pieces of information gathered from many sources. Several clues regarding this family were found in the family's charge account at the local general store, operated by "Col." John Chiswell. [Several of the Stanley families also traded at this store, proving that the Strongs and Stanleys resided in the same general vicinity.]

The following were probable or possible children of John Strong, Jr., and his wife, probably "Mary Strong".

256 i. Martin STRONG, 1st

ii. "Matt" [STRONG?] made purchases to the estate of John Strong, Jr. It is not clear whether or not he was a son of John Strong. If a son, he was likely born before 1732, probably in Hanover Co., VA. He perhaps died after 1751 in Hanover County.

iii. Mrs. Sarah [STRONG?] BLALOCK also made purchases charged to the account of the estate of John Strong, Jr., and is thus presumed to have been a daughter of John Strong, Jr. If so, she was likely born before 1731 in Hanover Co., VA, and she likely died died after sometime after 1752.

iv. Sherwood STRONG, 1st, is a proven brother of John Strong, III, and of Martin Strong, 1st. Sherwood Strong was probably born about 1733 in Hanover Co., VA. Between 1754 and 1763, Sherwood Strong served in the British colonial army for at least one six month tour of duty. He and his brother, JOhn, served in the 2nd Virginia Regiment, French and Indian Wars. Sherwood Strong died before 1780 in Virginia, probably in Hanover County. He had no surviving sons, and probably no daughters, to inherit his land rights.

v. Elizabeth STRONG was probably born before 1735 in Hanover Co., VA. She, too, made purchases that were charged to the estate of John Strong, Jr. No records of her have been found after the early 1750s. She likely married but may have died after 1751 in Hanover Co., VA.

vi. John STRONG, 3rd, also served in the British colonial army between 1754 and 1763 for at least one six month tour of duty in the 2nd Virginia Regiment, French and Indian Wars. John Strong was probably born before 1736 in Hanover County, VA. He died in 1815 in Clarke or Oglethorpe Co., GA. His will was recorded in Clarke County, GA.

vii. William STRONG, Sr., was born before 1738 in Hanover Co.?, VA. He died in 1816 in Clarke Co., GA. He was a resident of St. Martin's Parish, Hanover County, in 1759 when he and his wife purchased land in Goochland County. They resided in eastern Goochland County until 1776 then moved to adjacent Buckingham County. After the Revolution, his sons began to migrate to Georgia, possibly to obtain military land grants. William Strong, Sr., also relocated to Georgia and settled in the area that became Clarke County.

viii. Nathan(iel) STRONG, Sr., was born about 1744, probably in Hanover Co., VA. He resided in Louisa and Goochland Counties in close proximity to John Strong, III, if not on his brother's land prior to purchasing some of his brother's land. Around 1815 he relocated to Madison County, Mississippi Territory, now Madison County, Alabama. He died testate in 1823 in Madison Co., AL.

ix. Martha STRONG, the first Mrs. Eleazar(ius) Williams, resided in the same part of Goochland County where John, Nathan, and Mrs. Ann Strong resided. Based on this proximity in time and place, she is judged to be a likely daughter of John Strong, Jr. Martha was born probably before 1750 in probably Hanover Co., VA. She died before 1778 in Goochland Co., VA.
