- William Arnold, grandfather of Zachariah, received a grant of 400 acres from William Gooch on 17 March 1736. This land lay on both sides of Tan Wallet Run in Goochland County (in that part which later became Cumberland County, Va.).
The description mentions “John Bostick’s line near the west side of Tan Waller Run.” On 16 June 1740, William Arnold deposed in Goochland County, Virginia, regarding the will of William Bostick which William and his wife, Elizabeth, had witnessed on 30 Dec 1739. In his deposition, William Arnold gave his age as 40. (See AFAS Vol. VII, p 61).
The Will of William Arnold of Cumberland County was dated 16 Sept 1774, probated 28 Nov 1774 (see AFAS Vol. VII, p 45). In his will he bequeathed land to 3 sons,
Moses, William, and Thomas. He also had a son, Henry.
